Historical Museum Bischofszell
The Bischofszell Historical Museum welcomes visitors to two stately 18th-century patrician mansions. These buildings once served as residences for linen merchants. Today, the museum illustrates how people lived in Bischofszell from the late Gothic period through the 20th century. In addition to home decor and local history, the museum features a collection of ceramics and maps, a drugstore room, and a pharmacy just as they were in days gone by. The collection of toys from the 19th and 20th centuries is sure to delight younger visitors as well. Refreshments, including drinks and pastries, are available in the coffee shop—a middle-class dining room from the 1920s.
Today, the museum’s historic vaulted cellar, as well as the adjacent courtyard with its Baroque garden and the small cottage “Schniderbudig” located within it, are available for celebrations and meetings. More than 400 years ago, the Schniderbudig served as a cloth hall for the linen trade. Today, Gerry Scheiwiller hosts events for up to 70 people at the “Schniderbudig,” providing culinary highlights.
The Schniderbudig is one of the few select locations in the canton Thurgau that offers civil wedding ceremonies in a historic setting.
