SUP cinema on Lake Constance: When waves tell stories!

by the water

Romanshorn, July 21, 2025 - Cinema adventure meets the sound of waves: On August 15, 2025, Lake Constance in front of Badi Hörnlibuck in Rorschacherberg will be transformed into a floating outdoor cinema. The moving documentary "Home is the Ocean" about the Schwörer family from Eastern Switzerland, who have been traveling the world's oceans on a sailing boat for 25 years, will be shown. If the weather does not cooperate, the event will take place on August 16.

Cinema experience on the lake
In collaboration with the Roxy cinema, PADL Bodensee - a joint project of Thurgau Tourism and St. Gallen-Bodensee Tourism - is creating a special and unforgettable cinema experience. Here, movie lovers don't sit in the cinema as usual, but take a seat on their own SUP board or in a kayak. Visitors paddle a few meters out onto Lake Constance, where they can attach their boards to the anchors provided. A limited number of SUP seats are also available on site.
Depending on the water level, the film can also be enjoyed from the shore on camping chairs or deckchairs you have brought with you. If you would like to enjoy a delicious snack beforehand, you can do so at the Hörnlibuck Kiosk (open until 19:00).
"It is a unique experience to enjoy the sunset over the lake and be transported into a fascinating world of film at the same time," says Franziska Bresciani, Product Manager at Thurgau Tourismus.

Portrait of an extraordinary family
The award-winning documentary "Home is the Ocean" will be shown - a captivating story about the Schwörer family from eastern Switzerland, who have lived on their expedition sailing boat Pachamama for 25 years. Parents Dario and Sabine Schwörer set sail back then to conduct field research in remote regions and to inspire their children for nature. Six children, all born in different corners of the world, grow up together in just 20 square meters.
Filmmaker Livia Vonaesch accompanied the family for seven years and documents up close how the Schwörers question conventional notions of home, upbringing and security. But the children's growing up and a dramatic storm put the family's fragile balance to the test.
