Forest clearing shows the way - pilot project for the Hörnli-Bergland

Fischingen, July 1, 2025 - With the newly opened "Waldlichtung" in Fischingen Monastery, the Hörnli-Bergland, one of the most valuable landscapes in Switzerland, is entering a new phase in its tourism development. The sensually staged installation marks the start of a joint vision of the three tourism regions of Thurgau Bodensee, Toggenburg and Zürcher Oberland: to sustainably strengthen the pre-alpine landscape around Hörnli, Schnebelhorn and Tössstock as a lively natural and cultural area.

Waldlichtung Fischingen: Meeting place with depth
The newly opened "Waldlichtung" installation at Fischingen Monastery allows visitors to directly experience the diversity of the Hörnli mountain region. Interactive elements such as sound installations, a quadroscope and an overview map make the region accessible to the senses. The installation was designed by Bellprat Partner and realized with regional craftsmen - including the monastery joinery, Nägele Bau and the Fischingen-Tobel forestry company, which also sponsored the wood for the tree trunks. A visible sign of regionality in action.

Opening of the forest clearing at the end of June
The forest clearing was officially inaugurated at the end of June as part of an internal event for project participants and has been open to visitors free of charge ever since. Access to the monastery grounds is open to the public. Please note the opening hours of the main entrance: daily from 07.00 to 22.00

Next step: Fischingen Nature Center as a gateway to the region
The forest clearing is a prototype and testing ground for a larger project: A nature center in the Fischingen monastery could serve as a reception and information point for the entire Hörnli-Bergland in the future. Initial planning is underway - both in terms of the building infrastructure and the necessary sponsorship. Following the first successful stage of the hotel expansion last year, the Fischingen Monastery Association is delighted to be able to support this first step in the tourism sector in partnership.

One shared space, three strong partners
The Hörnli-Bergland is one of the most valuable landscapes in Switzerland and is listed in the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance (BLN). The tourism organizations Thurgau Tourismus, Toggenburg Tourismus and Standortförderung Zürioberland are working together in a New Regional Policy project to promote this natural area across borders - with a focus on biodiversity, cultural heritage, sustainable communication and corporate volunteering. The aim is to turn the "landscape full of life" into a shared experience region with sustainable tourism and a deep awareness of the need to protect this special landscape.
