Europe's Path to the Stars takes viewers on an epic journey behind the scenes of the world's most powerful ground-based observatory and provides insights into the scientific work, the history, the technology and the people behind it. Learn more about the European Southern Observatory in a story of curiosity about the cosmos, of courage and perseverance; a story about observing a universe of mysteries and secrets and about the design, construction and operation of the most powerful ground-based telescope in the world. The film deals with the basic aspects of an astronomical observatory while providing an overview of the field of astronomy: starting with the site survey to find the best place to observe the sky, to the construction of the telescopes and their use as astronomers uncover the mysteries of the universe. Ages 12 and up. All planetarium shows are impressive, multi-media experiences on a 360° fulldome screen and are performed by the expert members of the Kreuzlingen Astronomical Association AVK. Each show concludes with a live moderated view of the current starry sky - possible in all weathers thanks to the projection and dome screen.
