Church comedy in two acts
by Alistair Beaton and Dietmar Jacobs
EURO-STUDIO Landgraf
"A shining example"! The Catholic dignitaries of a small German diocese see themselves as such. Clean, with few church resignations and absolutely scandal-free. In addition, the ambitious bishop presents himself as an energetic enlightener and clean man who resolutely combats all the dark shadows of the past. It is therefore no wonder that he is to be rewarded by the Vatican with the biggest event in the 700-year history of the diocese: At the end of his visit to Germany, the Pope will stop by the diocese, bless the diocese's most famous relic and spend a night in the episcopal palace. But during the preparations for the Holy Father's visit, a scandal brews beneath the seemingly perfect surface, threatening to sweep away not only the bishop but also the diocese like a tsunami. From now on, only one thing applies to the leading figures: the scandal must be prevented by any means necessary.
Scottish playwright and satirist Alistair Beaton and Mönchengladbach-born comedy and screenwriter Dietmar Jacobs have together achieved the feat of creating a provocative, serious comedy on a completely unfunny subject.
