Night watchman and doorman guild

Since 2004, an old tradition has been revived. The historic night watchmen and tower guards patrol the dark alleys and streets. You can hear the legendary hourly call: “Listen, people, and let me tell you…,” along with stories from city life, legends, and all sorts of spooky tales from the Middle Ages.

Group tours by torchlight lead through the darkest corners of the city, accompanied by the night watchman’s hourly call and spooky sights; the watchmen also recount stories about the old judicial system and the executioner’s dishonorable work.

The free walking tours titled “On the Eve of the New Moon,” which always begin at 9:00 p.m. at the Bogenturm in Bischofszell, are also popular. First, the tour heads to the suburbs, where participants check windows and doors and hear stories from the Middle Ages. Afterward, the tour proceeds to the old town, where tales of the dreadful plague are recounted.
