Herdern Castle
Herdern Castle stands in the center of the village of Herdern. The complex’s origins date back to the Middle Ages. Particularly striking is the octagonal castle tower with its onion-domed roof, visible from afar, which plays a defining role in Herdern’s townscape. Over the centuries, the former fortification evolved into a stately castle. The combination of medieval structural elements and Baroque architecture gives the complex its unique character. Surrounded by the historic village center, Herdern Castle serves as a major cultural and architectural landmark in the region. In addition to its architectural significance, Herdern Castle is also closely linked to the social history of Thurgau. The castle has served as the site of a social institution for many years and exemplifies the transformation of historic buildings. The impressive complex combines history, culture, and social development and is one of the canton Thurgau most significant cultural assets.
