Thurgau School Museum Amriswil

Thurgau School Museum Amriswil
The former schoolhouse in Amriswil is home to Switzerland's first school museum - a place that brings the history of Swiss education over the last 100 years to life in a fascinating way. The permanent exhibition features a faithfully preserved schoolroom from the 1920s, complemented by a variety of temporary exhibitions.

The school museum is an experience for all generations: In the lovingly furnished classroom on the second floor, older visitors feel transported back to their own school days, while younger ones discover how learning took place back then. The authentic atmosphere of 1920 is brought to life with original school furniture and materials. For example, Thurgau reading books from 1910 onwards invite visitors to browse through them, while old aids such as pencil cases, quills, primers, slates and slide rules bring long-gone teaching methods back to life.

As an extracurricular place of learning, the school museum offers various educational programs for school classes from kindergarten to upper school and secondary school that are tailored to the curriculum. Exciting temporary exhibitions take up topics such as "Näschi" or handicrafts, and museum events provide deeper insights into Swiss school history.

A visit to the Amriswil School Museum is a journey through time that brings the history of education to life.
