Hörnli-Bergland

Hörnli-Bergland - A landscape full of life

A unique natural and cultural area in the heart of Eastern Switzerland - one of the most beautiful and valuable landscapes in Switzerland stretches around the Hörnli, the Tössstock and the Schnebelhorn. As part of the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance (BLN), the Hörnli-Bergland is a place of diversity, history and recreation - united by nature, culture and people.

Welcome to the Hörnli-Bergland
Forests, meadows, villages and people around the Tössstock, Schnebelhorn and Hörnli form a unique pre-alpine natural and cultural area. Under the name "Hörnli-Bergland", the region is listed in the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of National Importance (BLN) as one of the most beautiful and valuable landscapes in Switzerland. The Hörnli-Bergland is characterized by high biodiversity, dense forests and wild ravines, agricultural and industrial culture, people and many stories. Only the borders between the cantons of Zurich, Thurgau and St. Gallen separate the area. But the cultural landscape is nevertheless unifying and it remains a common "landscape full of life" across the borders.
ZOTourism
One region - three cantons - countless possibilities
The region connects the cantons of Zurich, Thurgau and St. Gallen - a shared experience region with sustainable tourism and a deep awareness of the need to protect this special landscape.

Our vision: Working together for a sustainable tourism region

The tourism organizations Standortförderung Zürioberland, Toggenburg Tourismus and Thurgau Tourismus are working hand in hand to strengthen the Hörnli-Bergland as a natural living and recreation area.

The focus is on:

  • Experience nature: forests, meadows, ravines and Nagelfluh geology as a hotspot of biodiversity
  • Experience culture: building culture, forestry and agriculture, crafts & customs
  • Sustainable offers: Nature and culture education, regenerative tourism formats
  • Corporate volunteering & biodiversity missions

"Forest clearing" in the Fischingen monastery

The newly opened "Waldlichtung" installation at Fischingen Monastery allows visitors to experience the diversity of the Hörnli mountain region in a special way. Interactive elements such as sound installations, a quadroscope and an overview map invite visitors to discover the region with all their senses. The "Waldlichtung" was designed by Bellprat Partner and implemented in collaboration with regional craftsmen - including the Klosterschreinerei, Nägele Bau and the Fischingen-Tobel forestry company, which also donated the wood for the tree trunks. An impressive example of regionality in action.

The installation is intended as a prototype and testing ground for a larger project: in future, a nature center could be created in Fischingen Monastery as a central reception and information point for the entire Hörnli-Bergland . Initial planning is already underway - both in terms of the structural infrastructure and with regard to a suitable sponsor. Following the successful completion of the first stage of the hotel extension last year, the Fischingen Monastery Association is delighted to be able to help shape this important step in the tourism sector as a partner.
