Hudelmoos nature reserve

The Hudelmoos nature reserve is home to a rich variety of plant and animal species and is a real biodiversity hotspot. Located around three kilometers above Amriswil, the area is accessible via several paths. This allows you to experience nature up close.
In 1992, 40 birds, 210 butterflies, 29 dragonflies, 348 vascular plants, 98 mosses and 298 fungi were listed in a monograph on this raised bog. The logical consequence: the Hudelmoos was included in the "Federal Inventory of Raised Bogs and Transition Bogs of National Importance".
It was not always so tranquil: the increasing need for energy and industrialization in the 18th century led to massive peat extraction in many places, and peat was cut until the middle of the 20th century. As a result of this extraction, only around 30 hectares of the original moor remain today.
