Free on the road

A great advantage for families in Thurgau: with the Eastern Switzerland Guest Card "Oskar", you can travel free of charge not only in Thurgau, but also in the cantons of St. Gallen, Appenzell, Glarus and Schaffhausen. In addition, "Oskar" gives you access to over 80 exciting experiences such as cable car rides, climbing tours in the high ropes course, boat trips, museum tours and minigolf. The card can be booked for stays of two nights or more in an Oskar partner hotel, offering numerous opportunities for unforgettable family adventures.

Affordable accommodation

Romanshorn Youth Hostel is centrally located near the railroad station, making it an ideal starting point for cycling tours around Lake Constance or through the Thurgau hinterland. The youth hostel has a large hall with TV, a children's playroom, a kiosk, table football and a playground.
The Bodensee-Arena in Kreuzlingen is located directly on the harbor and adjacent to the Seeburgpark. In summer, the lake invites you to play and splash around, while in winter the ice rink right next to the hotel provides plenty of skating fun
The old fishermen's houses in Romanshorn offer a unique overnight stay surrounded by history. Built in 1671, they were authentically restored in 2011 according to the principles of historic preservation and revived as vacation apartments in a listed building. With their central location and a cozy, stylishly furnished breakfast room, they offer a very special vacation experience.
The Feierlenhof offers charming vacation apartments in various sizes at fair prices. Particularly noteworthy is the active fruit farm, which is a true paradise for children. There are playgrounds on every corner, apple trees to climb, bicycles for little adventures and animals such as goats, peacocks, chickens and ponies just waiting to be stroked.
Kreuzlingen Youth Hostel is situated in the middle of a large park two minutes' walk from Lake Constance and is housed in an old stately villa with balconies overlooking the lake. A canoe can be hired directly from the youth hostel. There is also a sports field with table tennis and outdoor chess.

Free adventures

The Seeburgpark Kreuzlingen stretches for two and a half kilometers along the shores of Lake Constance. In the largest public nature adventure park on Lake Constance, little whirlwinds can let off steam in the extensive and varied intergenerational playground. There is also an animal park here, where they specialize in keeping and breeding old domestic animal breeds that have almost disappeared. The park also offers mini-golf and restaurants.
Thurgau's capital Frauenfeld has plenty to offer young explorers: three cantonal museums can be visited free of charge. In the Historical Museum, a scavenger hunt with a smartphone guides children through the castle. In the small but beautiful Nature Museum, children can pet a fox, marvel at live ants, listen to great songs and solve tricky puzzles. It is directly attached to the Museum of Archaeology.
The Flugplatz Sitterdorf leisure park offers an exciting combination of an animal and leisure park for young and old. Several attractions such as the nautical jet, butterfly, cable car, hamster wheel and much more await guests. The train, which runs around the entire amusement park, also makes children's eyes light up. All the rides are operated with tokens, which can be purchased at the airfield. And, of course, the planes taking off and landing at the active airfield are also fascinating.
