When Thurgau is shrouded in mist, it becomes quiet, gentle and surprisingly beautiful. Between the steaming lake, mystical forests and cozy cultural sites, very special moments are created. Far away from the hustle and bustle, you will find ideas here on how to turn gray days into golden memories.

When the mist covers the meadows and forests like a veil, every hike becomes a quiet time-out. Routes through the Seebachtal valley, along the Untersee lake or on the Thronfolgeweg trail are particularly atmospheric.
When it's foggy, discovering indoors is all the more beautiful: the Thurgau Historical Museum takes you back to the Middle Ages, while the Nature Museum offers exciting insights into the flora, fauna and geology of the region. Ideal for families and those hungry for knowledge who like things to be cozy and informative.
Fog outside, warmth inside: the wellness hotel Golfpanorama in Lipperswil offers a place to breathe deeply with its sauna, steam bath and pool. The view of the misty hilly landscape makes switching off even more intense.
Swimming in the lake
Fog, cold water, clear thoughts: fall is the ideal preparation time for anyone planning (or simply brave enough) to go winter swimming. A short dip in Lake Constance, for example near Altnau, or in Lake Hüttwil will get your circulation going.
High above the Thur valley lies the Benedictine monastery of Fischingen - a spiritual place that is particularly impressive in foggy weather. The baroque grounds, the meditative monastery park and the scent of damp leaves create an atmosphere of contemplation. Ideal for a quiet break from everyday life.
Simply hop on, look out of the window and roll through the misty landscape - for example on the Kreuzlingen-Weinfelden route or along the Thur: the Thurbo regional train takes you leisurely through villages, fields and vineyards. A relaxing micro-trip, perfect for a gray afternoon.
The Untersee and Rhine Navigation Company is extending the season and invites you to autumn hopping in October and November. On five weekends, the ships shuttle on a circular route - an atmospheric experience on the water even in gray weather.

But would you rather escape the fog?

When everything is gray below, it's worth looking up. Here you will find tips for excursions above the fog line. Perfect for anyone who would rather soak up the light than eat foggy soup.
