Tour de Thurgau

The Tour de Thurgau leads through picturesque landscapes, past castles, orchards and historic villages. Thanks to Thurbo and boat trips, the route can be flexibly combined - ideal for both sporty and leisurely explorers.

Cycling off the bucket list on the Tour de Thurgau
Extensive orchards, sublime country estates, original museums and constant views of the wide blue: the Tour de Thurgau combines the highlights of the Swiss canton of Lake Constance on two stages and a total of around 150 kilometers. Sometimes directly along the shore, sometimes in the best panoramic position on the lake ridge, pleasure cyclists are in the right place on the Tour de Thurgau . In the video, Thurgau cantonal councillor Monika Knill goes on a discovery tour.
From Horn to Weinfelden
From Horn to Weinfelden, there are always attractive stops along the way: in Arbon directly on the lake, for example, the Saurer Automobile Museum, further up the road the Möhl cider factory and in Romanshorn the autobau world of experience. The historic moated castle in Hagenwil is the perfect place for a culinary stopover. Finally, the tour continues to the pretty old town of Bischofszell, where the famous Rose Week takes place every two years.

"Once in Weinfelden, a detour to the wine trail on the Ottenberg is worthwhile"

From Weinfelden to Diessenhofen
The second part of the Tour de Thurgau past Switzerland's largest amusement park, Connyland in Lipperswil, and the romantic Napoleonic castle of Arenenberg down to the shores of Lake Constance. During the sailing season, the Untersee and Rhine shipping company's boat is waiting at Kreuzlingen harbor. So if you want to take a breather, you can switch from land to water. On the way to Diessenhofen, Lake Constance becomes the Untersee and finally the Rhine. The ship stops at picturesque villages along the way. In Diessenhofen, a medieval town with one of the last covered wooden bridges over the Rhine, you can switch back to your bike.

"If you want to switch from land to water, take the boat from Kreuzlingen in the direction of Diessenhofen"

Over the Seerücken to Frauenfeld
The next section of the tour takes on a monastic feel, leading from the idyllic Rhine landscape over the Seerücken to the cantonal capital of Frauenfeld. It passes the Kartause Ittingen monastery in Warth. The former Carthusian monastery is now used as a seminar hotel and offers a wide range of cultural activities. The Art Museum and Ittingen Museum are also housed in the historically valuable monastery buildings. The route continues along the Thur to Frauenfeld, where Frauenfeld Castle towers over the center as a landmark.
Onwards to Tannzapfenland
The last section finally winds its way through the rear part of the Thurgau into the "Tannzapfenland" region on remote roads and idyllic cycle paths. The Benedictine monastery in Fischingen has been an important stop on the Way of St. James since the Middle Ages. Fischingen is the only monastery in Thurgau inhabited by monks. The monastery grounds on the upper reaches of the Murg are a heavenly place of peace and tranquillity.
