Adrian's top spots: You have to see it!

It's beautiful in Thurgau . Very beautiful, in fact. Adrian Braunwalder, Managing Director of Thurgau Tourism, cannot deny this, of course. He takes us on a personal tour of his 10 favorite places and insider tips in the Swiss Lake Constance region.

The remains of Last, Heuberg and Anwil castles fascinate visitors with their history and location. Three paths lead there and allow for shorter or longer tours, depending on your mood. Rest areas with barbecues and cozy inns invite you to take a break along the way. A short detour to Klein Rigi, which was awarded the 2024 Tourism Prize, provides a particularly rewarding view.
Ittingen Charterhouse is a place full of history and life. The former monastery impresses with its historical charm, extensive gardens and atmospheric courtyards. The 0-km philosophy is particularly exciting: vegetables, cheese and other specialties come directly from the Charterhouse's own gardens and farms and invite you to enjoy an authentic culinary experience. Museums, art installations and changing events turn every visit into a journey of discovery, where history, enjoyment and culture come together harmoniously.
The Thurgau Tannzapfenweg starts at the historic Fischingen monastery and leads through the idyllic Hörnli-Bergland. The trail winds its way through shady forests, across meadows and repeatedly offers impressive views of Lake Constance. A particular highlight is the ascent to the Fischinger Grat, the highest point in the canton of Thurgau at 991.1 meters above sea level.
Anyone looking for an unusual place to spend the night in Thurgau has many options - but the converted single-axle trailer is a real highlight. The carriage of a nostalgic Rapid Special has been equipped with a double bed and a comfortable seat and offers the opportunity to spend the night in the open air. This allows you to experience nature up close with all its colors, scents and sounds.
And if it rains, the nature and castle museums in Frauenfeld are perfect excursion destinations for the whole family. The nature museum invites you to discover animals, plants and geological features interactively, while the castle museum conveys the history of the region in an exciting way. Both museums make history and nature tangible and offer entertainment for children and adults alike.
Hagenwil moated castle is the only preserved moated castle in Eastern Switzerland and impresses with over 800 years of history. Today it is family-run and combines historical charm with a lively present. Visitors can explore the well-preserved rooms, stroll through the idyllic castle park or experience special events.
The Seebachtal valley in the canton of Thurgau is home to three idyllic lakes: the Hüttwilersee, the Nussbaumersee and the Hasensee. These bodies of water are remnants of the last ice age and today are characterized by unique flora and fauna. Lake Hüttwil is known for its tranquillity and is ideal for swimming and relaxing. Lake Nussbaumersee impresses with its biodiversity and is a paradise for birdwatchers. The smallest of the three lakes, the Hasensee, impresses with its unspoilt nature and invites you to take a leisurely stroll.
The telephone museum impressively preserves the history of telecommunications and brings it to life. The visit is particularly exciting during a guided tour, during which old sets, crank telephones and dials are presented. It is a special moment when children are amazed to discover that they can no longer do anything with a dial. This moment shows in a humorous way how quickly technology has changed.
Arbon Bay is characterized by its rare proximity to Lake Constance. Hardly any other place offers such direct access to the water. Shallow shores, small bays and quiet sunbathing lawns invite you to linger, take a walk or enjoy water sports activities. Whether on foot or by bike, the route can be extended to Horn, allowing you to experience the lakeside landscape from a different perspective.
The hiking trails around the Nollen offer a pure experience of nature. The barefoot trail is particularly popular, where you can feel the variety of surfaces - from soft grass and gravel to wooden walkways - up close. Along the way, there are always impressive views of the Alpstein massif and the surrounding hills. Cozy inns and picnic areas offering regional specialties provide breaks.
