Hikes in the blossom paradise

In spring, when the weather gets warmer and the buds on the apple and pear trees begin to open, the Thurgau region is transformed into a white paradise of blossoms. This natural spectacle is best observed while hiking or taking a leisurely stroll. Below, Madame Bluescht shares her insider tips for the most beautiful blossom hikes on the southern shore of Lake Constance.

The start of this tour is spectacular: the entire splendor of Thurgau's blossoming paradise spreads out before your eyes. The climb to the Ruggisberg viewpoint, with its picturesque chapel, is also well worth the effort. Here you can enjoy a wonderful view over orchards and lush green meadows. From here on, it's downhill, with the sparkling Lake Constance always in sight. Along the way is the Landgasthof Seelust, which impresses with local specialties and a beautiful garden restaurant.
With no significant differences in altitude, this Blue Trail hike is just right for connoisseurs and those who like to take it easy. Here and there you pass villages and hamlets with time-honored half-timbered buildings, which are gently embedded in the landscape of blossoming fruit trees. A highlight at the end: the Eisweiher, also known as the Ziegeleiweiher. The lake is a remnant of industrialization and a local recreation area with secluded spots to take a break.
The two-hour circular trail leads through rural Roggwil and the surrounding farmland. Various information boards provide fascinating facts about the history and nature of this pretty village. The climb up to the Watt is particularly worthwhile, as it offers visitors a spectacular view of colorful flowers. In addition to the flowers, the Kybun Tower and the Echinapoint experience center run by the natural medicine company A.Vogel are also highlights of the hike. Lunch is available at the Linde restaurant, and a refreshing beer can be enjoyed after the hike at the huus-braui.
This circular hiking trail is characterized by magnificent views over Lake Untersee and southern Germany. But you can also enjoy views of blossoming orchards and green forests. Once you arrive at the Hochwacht, the fire pit with probably the best view of the entire Untersee, you are greeted by a picture of colorful spring meadows in bloom. Along the way, you can take a break at the Klingenzellerhof restaurant. And if you want to take a dip in Lake Constance at the end, make a detour to the secluded seaside resort of Mammern.
The Napoleon Tour takes you through Napoleon III's former empire. From Ermatingen on Lake Constance, the route climbs uphill – past blossom-filled views – to the Seerücken, where the 36-meter-high Napoleon Tower awaits. Climbing the tower is rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view over the sparkling expanse of Lake Constance. Now it's back downhill to Arenenberg Castle, home to the Napoleon Museum. Back at the lake, the hike from Mannenbach can be wonderfully combined with a boat trip to the starting point or to another destination.
This section of the Thurgau hiking trail takes you on a two-hour exploration of the region around Arbon. The flat path leads from Neukirch-Egnach directly to the center of Arbon, past blossoming orchards and magnificent standard trees. The charming old town and the lake promenade, with their numerous restaurants and harbor bars, invite you to stop for a leisurely break. Culture enthusiasts will also be drawn to the Saurer Museum, which showcases the history of the once world-famous company.
There is one thing in particular that inspires visitors to the Langrickenbach Panorama Trail: the view! Whether it's the sparkling Lake Constance, the distant Alps, or the delicate pink blossoms of the fruit trees, the trail constantly reveals new vistas that invite you to pause and enjoy. The approximately three-hour hike has almost no inclines and offers the opportunity to barbecue and linger at its shady fire pits in idyllic forest spots.
On the Altnau Apple Trail, hiking becomes an educational adventure for explorers of all ages. Accompanied by apple mascots Emma, Lisi, and Fredi, visitors can choose from three routes of varying lengths, each featuring games and interactive activities throughout the apple orchards. On foot, by bike, or by horse-drawn carriage, you can find out why apples thrive so well in the Thurgau village of Altnau. The tour is particularly beautiful during the apple blossom season in spring or harvest time in autumn. At the Feierlenhof farm, located directly on the trail, refreshing drinks and a cozy spot to rest await you.
The 200-kilometer-long, well-signposted Thurgau circular hiking trail passes the most beautiful spots, 25 small lakes, and almost as many castles and palaces. The section from Hauptwil to Amriswil is particularly charming during the flowering season. Nature lovers can look forward not only to magnificent fruit trees, but also to beautiful paths along the Sitter river. Our tip: the Gertau Sitter ferry saves you the detour via Lütschwil. Towards the end of the hike, Hagenwil moated castle is a great place to stop and enjoy the blossoms.
