Discover Thurgau 72 hours

Three days of family adventures. Our travel idea offers a short getaway for the whole family. We recommend exploring the route by car, but it’s also possible to do so by public transportation—just allow a little more time.

You’ll find more inspiration for unique accommodations, delightful restaurants, and unforgettable experiences below.

morning
Your fall adventure begins at the Weberei Matzingen stop. Before you start your hike, pick up your personal wooden marble from the 24-hour marble vending machine right at the stop. The Rugelreise trail takes you along the Murg River through the colorful fall forests from Matzingen to Frauenfeld. Along the way, 12 unique marble runs are waiting to be discovered.

Tip: If you’re traveling with young children and don’t want to hike the entire 6.3-km route, you can easily hop on the Frauenfeld-Wil train at the Lüdem stop to shorten the route.
Lunch
After the first few marble runs, it’s time for a break. There are two ideal rest stops along the Murg: the picnic area at Königs-Wuhr or the one near the Aumühle playground. While lunch sizzles on the grill, the kids can keep playing to their hearts’ content. Both fire pits have a grill grate—just bring your own firewood.
afternoon
In the afternoon, right in the heart of Frauenfeld’s Old Town, a journey of discovery through Thurgau’s natural world awaits you. At the “ Thurgau ” Nature Museum, over 1,000 animal and plant specimens, a beaver lodge, live ants, and interactive “hands-on” stations promise a variety of family-friendly experiences full of wonder and discovery.
Break
Time for a break: Located right on the Murg River and across from Frauenfeld Castle, US-MEX brings a touch of that vacation feeling to your day. The menu features American and Mexican classics as well as delicious snacks—perfect for a relaxing break.
Accommodation
To round out the day, a special overnight stay awaits you and your family at the Ittingen Charterhouse. Surrounded by monastery walls, vineyards, and fruit trees, you can wind down from your eventful day in a relaxed atmosphere before recharging your batteries for the next day in the stylish, modern rooms.
Dinner
For dinner, we head to the Mühle restaurant at the Ittingen Charterhouse. Many of the ingredients come directly from the estate’s own farm, ensuring an authentic culinary experience. It’s the perfect way to wind down the first day of our vacation in a cozy atmosphere.
morning
The second day begins with a delicious breakfast. The breakfast buffet features many homemade products from the estate’s own farm—from fresh wood-fired bread to cheese and yogurt, as well as apples and jams. The perfect start to an eventful day.

Once you’re well-fortified, it’s time to set off on the Ittingen scavenger hunt. For about an hour, the route winds through the Kartause, leading you to hidden nooks, gardens, ponds, and fascinating spots within the former monastery complex.
Lunch
For lunch, head up above Frauenfeld to the Stählibuck Restaurant. Regional dishes, a special children’s menu, a playground, and animals around the property make this stop especially family-friendly.
After lunch, the next little adventure awaits: From the restaurant, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the Stählibuck Tower, which offers sweeping views all the way to the Alps.
afternoon
After taking in the view from the Stählibuck Tower, you’ll continue on to Münchwilen and the GameScore. At this interactive game museum, you can try out board games, pinball machines, arcade games, video game consoles, and virtual reality for yourself. Here, gaming becomes a fun-filled family experience.
Dinner
After a fun-filled afternoon at GameScore, head to Restaurant Mühli in Matzingen for dinner. You’ll find seasonal dishes and specialties from the restaurant’s own farm. Dedicated kids’ menus, toys, and a playground make for a particularly family-friendly way to end the day.
morning
After a delightful start at the breakfast buffet at Kartause Ittingen, your day will begin in a relaxed atmosphere. Then it’s off to the Schlossbadi in Frauenfeld, featuring an indoor pool, various water areas, and plenty of space for splashing around and swimming.
Lunch
After a fun day swimming at the Schlossbadi, we’ll head to the Sternen Brewery together to wrap up your stay. The cozy Sternenbeiz serves flatbreads, burgers, bagels, and other brewery classics. With many wonderful family moments and shared memories to take home, your getaway at the Thurgau is slowly coming to an end.
