Winter hiking in Thurgau

Thurgau reveals its quiet magic in winter. When fog settles over the lake and nature goes into hibernation, forests and fields are transformed into atmospheric landscapes. On winter hikes, you can consciously experience this special tranquillity, take a deep breath and let yourself be carried away by the magic of winter nature.

This panoramic trail is a varied and family-friendly circular hike. The starting point is the small village of Lustdorf, which lies between Frauenfeld and Weinfelden and can be easily reached by Thurbo regional train and post bus. Hiking westwards, you soon reach the imposing Stählibuck tower with its magnificent view of the Alps. The Stählibuck restaurant offers refreshments.
A short section of the Way of St. James: for centuries, pilgrims have walked this part of the route via Hörnli on their journey from Germany to Santiago de Compostela. Starting at Fischingen Monastery, the hiking trail leads out of the village through the forest to Alp Ergeten, where, with a bit of luck, you may discover rare animals and plants. The last stage leads to the summit and the beautifully situated Hörnli mountain inn with its delicious cuisine and magnificent views of the Säntis, Schnebelhorn and Töss Valley. In winter, you can go sledging on the way back from Allewinde.
This circular trail starts and ends in the small village of Wuppenau, nestled between Weinfelden and Wil. The almost seven-kilometre panoramic trail leads around the Nollen plateau. What can be discovered as a barefoot trail in summer will delight the heart and eyes in the colder months of the year. Along the way, the view opens up to the Seerücken, Lake Constance and the Alpstein. Tip: Enjoy a lunch break at the nearby Hotel & Restaurant Nollen.
The Murgweg starts in Frauenfeld behind the train station. You can follow the "Murgweg" signs along the entire route. At the beginning, the trail leads past Frauenfeld Castle and then continues along the Murg. After various crossings of the river on footbridges and bridges, you finally reach Wängi. Here you have definitely earned a large slice of the famous Thurgau cider cake or a vermicelli slice in the café of the Nafzger bakery - en Guete! If you are not yet at the end of your tether, you can continue along the Murg to Münchwilen, towards the destination town of Wil.
The Steckborn circular hiking trail is one of the most beautiful in the Lake Constance region. The tour covers almost 14 kilometers and takes around four hours to complete. The route offers unique views of the Untersee landscape as well as the lively little town of Steckborn with its historic alleyways. The hilly circular walk is very suitable for families. On the home stretch, a stop at the restaurant of the See & Park Hotel Feldbach is recommended. If the way home leads via Gottlieben, a sweet detour to the Gottlieben specialties is certainly worth a sin.
The Thurgau Panorama Trail starts in Amriswil and leads in a southerly direction through the center of Amriswil to Hagenwil. There you will find the historic moated castle, where you can plan a warming break in the restaurant of the same name. The trail now leads to the Sitter, after which a small detour must be taken in winter. This is definitely worthwhile, as the tranquil atmosphere of the Hauptwil ponds awaits you shortly afterwards. With the final ascent to the Waldschenke, the tour destination, the rose town of Bischofszell, becomes visible.
Anyone looking for excitement, exercise and fresh air will get their money's worth with the KrimiSpass. Amriswil becomes the scene of a crime and the scene of a missing person case that has to be solved over a distance of 3.2 kilometers using clues. All you need for the search for clues is a smartphone, pen and paper. The start is at the Ziegelweiher pond. The trail leads through the town and ends at Amriswil railroad station. KrimiSpass Amriswil is suitable for families with children of reading age and older.

Stop off and enjoy
